Is Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) Science?

The online definition of science is “the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.” With that said, is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) considered to be science? That question is quite debatable. With Western medicine, it is easily identified as science because it uses a standardized scientific process, specifically animal or human testing, to create and modernize medicine. With TCM, it uses herbs, acupuncture, and Tai Chi to treat health issues. With philosophical and religious influences, such remedies were perceived to have miraculous powers, leaving some individuals to believe that TCM is a placebo or superstitious form of medicine. But, with thorough research, we have discovered numerous experiments that reinforce the idea that TCM is science.

The original, Eastern perception of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is based off of philosophical and religious concepts, but, as you explore our website, you can see that each TCM subfield, like Tai Chi, is scientific. Each treatment has been in various research and experiments, indicating that the results of TCM can be observed, quantified, and compared/contrast with other treatments. Thus, the functionality of TCM is reliable and valid. This Eastern remedy should definitely be infused into the Western culture, allowing everyone to have a wider option of health solutions.
